My name is Jonathan Woody. If you know anything about me already, you know that I love kids and I love Carrboro Elementary School. I began my career in education as a teacher assistant in WCPSS. From there, I spent fifteen years teaching in private schools. I have taught in a variety of educational settings.....from Trivium-based classical schools all the way to Project-Based Learning schools.
Education is a second career for me. I graduated from Montreat College with a major in Accounting and Economics. I've since received three graduate degrees (Theology from Southeastern Seminary, Humanities from Duke and School Administration from UNC). I love to learn.
Personally, I live in downtown Raleigh with my husband, Ed. He's a national controller for a global finance firm. We live with our two-year old English Golden Retriever, Guinness, and are beginning the process of starting a family of our own. We'll hopefully welcome our first child into the world within the next year and a half.
My interests include sports. I love basketball, soccer, lacrosse and football. I am a huge Duke fan! I also love reading physics and historical fiction, running and biking and spending time with family and friends.
My name is Jillian La Serna and I am honored to serve as principal at Carrboro Elementary School. I began my career in education as a teacher assistant. I worked as a classroom teacher in various grade levels: kindergarten, fourth, and fifth. I have also had the opportunity to live and teach in Lima, Peru. I completed my undergraduate work and Teacher Preparation Program at California State University, Sacramento. I received my Master of School Administration at UNC-Chapel Hill as a North Carolina Principal Fellow. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at UNC-Chapel Hill.
I have had the pleasure of working at Carrboro Elementary for the five years, one as principal intern, and two as assistant principal, and two as principal. Both of my children, Mateo (9) and Micaela (6), are also proud Carrboro Cubs. My interests outside of school include reading, swimming, traveling, and spending time with my family.
