CES Administrative Team
My name is Jillian La Serna and I am honored to serve as principal at Carrboro Elementary School. I began my career in education as a teacher assistant. I worked as a classroom teacher in various grade levels: kindergarten, fourth, and fifth. I have also had the opportunity to live and teach in Lima, Peru. I completed my undergraduate work and Teacher Preparation Program at California State University, Sacramento. I received my Master of School Administration at UNC-Chapel Hill as a North Carolina Principal Fellow. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at UNC-Chapel Hill.
I have had the pleasure of working at Carrboro Elementary for the past three years, one as principal intern, and two as assistant principal. Both of my children, Mateo (7) and Micaela (4), are also proud Carrboro Cubs. My interests outside of school include reading, swimming, traveling, and spending time with my family.
Dual Language at Carrboro Elementary
Half of all classrooms at Carrboro Elementary are dual language (DL) classrooms. Dual language is a form of bilingual education in which students are taught literacy and content in two languages. In DL classrooms at Carrboro, half of the instructional day is conducted in English and half of the instructional day is conducted in Spanish. If you have questions about dual language at CES, please contact the school.
